Boyd Exell is based in Leicester, England, where he is a professional carriage driving instructor and trainer.
Born in Bega, Australia, Boyd has been involved in equestrian sport since he was 8 years old.
At 16, Boyd won the Australian pairs championship. Aged 21 he left Australia for Britain to improve his riding and especially his carriage driving talent - with remarkable success.
He was a Member of the Australian team at World Singles Championships in Ebbs 1998.
Trainer of the British pony team drivers for World Championships at Saumur 1999 and Karlstetten 2003, and for British horse singles in 2010 and 2012, along with Australian Horse Singles in 2012. He is the British Horse Pairs team trainer for 2013.
Boyd was 2nd in the FEI Pairs Top Driver Award in 2001, and 2nd in the Four-in-hand Top Driver Award in 2003, 2007 & 2009.
He won the Four-in-Hand Top Driver Award in 2008 (which was shared with Ysbrand Chardon) and in 2011.

In 2003, 2009, 2010, 2011 & 12 he won the prestigious CAIO at Aachen (GER), the first time it has ever be won four times back-to-back, and in 2004, 2006 & 2008, 2010 & 2011 the International Driving Grand Prix at Royal Windsor (GBR).
In 2010 Boyd won his first gold medal at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games held in Kentucky and in Riesenbeck 2012 won his second gold medal at the World Four in Hand Championships.
In February 2012 Boyd has entered the history books by winning the FEI World Cup™ Driving Final for the fourth consecutive time. He also won the title in 2009, 2010 & 2011.
